New Instagram Stats: 90 Million Monthly Active Users

by

Instagram announced new statistics about their users on the company press site today. The numbers, listed below, should come as no surprise to many. The photo-focused site has been rapidly growing over the past two years, and even more so in the last six months.

  • 90 million Monthly Active Users
  • 40 million Photos Per Day
  • 8500 Likes Per Second
  • 1000 Comments Per Second
At last update, their stats were as follows
  • 80 million+ Registered Users
  • 4 billion+ Photos Uploaded
  • 5 million+ Photos Per Day
  • 575 Likes Per Second
  • 81 Comments Per Second

The real news here is the amount of increased engagement on the network.

81 comments per second to 1000. That’s an increase of 1134% since they last reported.

575 Likes per second to 8500. That’s an increase of 1378% since they last reported.

Also worth noting is that this is the first time that Instagram has reported Monthly Active Users (MAUs) definitively, a trend that is happening across all the major social netowrk. Twitter and G+ JUST started reporting MAUs as well (with 200 Million and 135 Million Active Users respectively)

These statistics come at an interesting time for the social network. In December, proposed changes to the TOS sparked a social backlash by users and the release of photo filters from Flickr and Twitter have added serious pressure to the mobile-first social network .

Here are the major Social Networks Listed by Monthly Active Users (From Company Data).

  • Facebook: 1 Billion
  • Tumblr: 400 Million
  • Twitter: 200 Million
  • LinkedIn: 160 Million
  • Google+: 135 Million
  • Instagram: 90 Million
  • Foursquare: 8 Million
