Great info Chris! I'm pleased you put the bit about confidence at the top -- no matter how great your slides, how interesting your content, a nervous speaker is never a good way to start off a conference. Don't let your best friend down and always know what you bring to the table.

Chris, Thank you for summing up what seem like the most important points wrt public speaking...especially to always remember what the audience needs and wants. love the part about thanking from the bottom of my heart, too.

This may be the most helpful public speaking advice I've ever gotten. You've covered every one of my concerns - clearly and briefly. (Kinda like a great speech!)
Thanks

Great info, Chris, especially for one such as myself who is just entering the speaking realm. I've heard and practiced them all over the years in various training and biz speaking opps, but the biggest reminder for me is You Know Enough (or you wouldn't have been invited to be there.) Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for this Chris. This is great advice - I've done it for years but still feel like a novice and get nervous - I shall carry your words with me in future - oh and buy Scott's book of course!

Good info. One might also consider joining a local Toastmasters club. They are generally low pressure and inexpensive ($20 a year for my last one). I joined one that cured me of the "ums" by clapping every time I did it. This was by request of course.

Also, to prevent getting cottonmouth on stage, eat an apple before going up.

Good info. One might also consider joining a local Toastmasters club. They are generally low pressure and extremely cheep ($20 a year for my last one). I joined one that cured me of the "ums" by clapping every time I did it. This was by request of course.

Bravo Chris!

The only two I'd add are PASSION and ENGAGEMENT.

Passion doesn't mean endless, loud ranting. It means conveying your enthusiasm and belief for your topic. If the audience see's you feel it, it often rubs off.

We're familiar with the importance of engagement through Social Media channels. Engaging and connecting with your audience when speaking draws them in and makes them feel like more of the conversation vs just getting preached to. Ask the audience a question, encourage a response...even if it's a collective "yes" or "no". Tony Robbins uses "say I" in his presentations.

Oh yeah. RELAX and BREATHE.
