10 Facebook Page Timeline Cover Examples

And many brands have already set up their cover images as a major branding opportunity.

Here are a few quick examples of the ones we have already seen this morning.

Keep in mind, this is not just for big brands. Just as with personal timelines, anyone can login, test and preview their timeline, and then publish it when ready.

All pages will be automatically converted to the Timeline layout on March 30th.

Great post – thanks for inspiring me but any tips for sole traders who love to think big but don’t necessarily have design software or a design budget? The cover shot is fantastic if you have a product or physical presence but if you have to represent your service visually but can’t afford professional design can you suggest any apps or free design software that might deliver a reasonable result? Thanks!

Be careful, John! Facebook explicitly states, before you upload a Cover Photo: “This space is not meant for promotions, coupons, or advertisements.” I know… It sucks.

Hi Rebecca for Small businesses with just one or two people in a team I would really recommend a beautiful photo of you with a message about what you do - and how you can help them. Big brands can hide a big label :) Small business should always be person to person :)

Agreed Tim, but the above samples show plenty of Brand names in them, and it could be argued that plenty of products are there. I like what Ford did with the photo linking it in with the image, but I definitely don’t like the image they’ve used. I’d be surprised if Facebook actually upholds this law very successfully! I’ve already seen breaches, so I’ll wait to see how things go there, but I noticed one had a huge “like us” arrow.

Yes. We’ll see what happens. My advice is to play it safe. Analisa here wrote a great article about Timeline’s New Rules with good examples of playing it safe while getting the job done.

Good article thanks for pointing it out! Some creative ways to stay inside the rules. I’ve still seen so many blatantly ignoring the rules. Although you state “play it safe”, I guess whether you do so or not should surely be judged by the punishment/outcome. If the punishment is a ticking off and asked to change the photo, but the outcome is 10x sales volume for the period it’s up….

Well, the problem is that you *don’t know” what the punishment / outcome will be, so it’s hard to assess the risk you’re actually taking. In such a case, I would look at the worst case scenario … deletion of page or removal from search results … and assume that’s the risk.
